Charities Supported and Monies Raised
Individual Lodge Charities
Each individual Lodge decides on the local charities which they want to help in addition to their support for the Masonic charities.
| Donations to local good causes from individual Lodges from throughout Suffolk amounted to £67,000 in 2007 and £64,000 in 2006. |
Provincial Grand Lodge of Suffolk Charities
Suffolk Freemasons continue to support the Teddies for Loving Care initiative. We supply Teddies to the local Hospitals for distribution to child patients who are extremely vulnerable when undergoing nursing care. This is funded by donations from individual Lodges.
Central Masonic Charities
The Grand Charity
This is the major route by which Freemasonry gives to National and International non-Masonic causes. It also makes grants to needy Freemasons and / or the needy dependents of Freemasons.
Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys
Seeks to "relieve poverty and provide an education and preparation for life for the children of the family of a Freemason and, where funds permit, for any children, as their fathers would have done had they been able to do so".
Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution
Seeks to help and care for older Freemasons and their Families mainly in their network of Residential homes all of which have nursing care. Some are also able to deal with special needs such as Alzheimer' disease.
Masonic Samaritan Fund
Seeks to relieve distress for Freemasons, their wives, widows and dependents who have identified medical needs, which are not readily available from the NHS, and who cannot afford to fund private medical treatment.
